HOW NEW JERSEY STACKS UP

You should be aware that every state has a character and fitness committee to review applicants before admission to the bar is granted. Some are more aggressive than others on this issue. In my experience with this process, New Jersey is, and historically has been, one of the leading jurisdictions in the United States in taking this criteria for bar admission seriously. It is not un-common for people to pass the bar and be admitted in another state but be withheld in New Jer-sey based on the same factual information.
